Germantown Academy rising senior midfielder Connor Crump has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Amherst College (MA).
Crump was a First Team Inter-Ac League pick last season when he collected 24 goals and 14 assists and helped the Patriots finish 14-5. This summer he earned National Club All-American honors as a member of LB3.
Crump plans to major in Political Science at Amherst, which went 15-3 last year and reached the NCAA quarterfinals after finishing 8-1 in the powerful New England Small College Athletic Conference. The 15 wins was a school record in Amherst’s first year under coach Jon Thompson.
“The campus is great, and it’s a really cool area,” said Crump of Amherst. “You also have the mountains there.
“Amherst is probably one of the top academic schools in the country and that was a pretty big factor. I wanted to pick the best school possible.”
Crump said he wants to study in the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science.
Crump is the third GA player to commit to play college lacrosse. Reid Weber (attackman) has committed to Lehigh and Billy Oppenheimer (attackman) has committed to Quinnipiac.
The Pats were nationally ranked through much of the 2011 season. Crump noted that GA lost several key players to graduation, but he si hopeful the team will remain a contender in the Inter-Ac.
“We’ll play hard and see what we can do,” he said. “We have a lot of potential and hopefully we’ll pick up where we left off.”
Crump wished to thank his coaches at LB3; the Banks brothers and Jim Beury; as well as GA coaches David Martin (head coach), Brian Grady and Dave Samson, and his parents, brother and sister and friends for their support.
