Midfielder Brendan McGrath and defenseman Alex Beatty of the Haverford School, the No. 1 ranked high school boys’ lacrosse team in the country in 2011, will be joining the Princeton University men’s program.

McGrath and Beatty are two of the nine recruits who will be joining Tiger head coach Chris Bates for the 2012 season. The nine players come from seven different states and one Canadian province.

“The biggest thing that sticks out for me with this class is that they all come from winning programs,” said Bates. “It’s always good to have players who are conditioned to winning and understand what it takes to win.”

The Class of 2015 will be part of Bates’ third team at Princeton. After going 11-5 and leading Princeton to the Ivy League championship, the Ivy League tournament championship and NCAA tournament in 2010, Bates saw his team decimated by injuries in 2011, a season that saw Princeton go 4-8.

The 2012 Tigers will be feature three All-Americas in senior defenseman Chad Wiedmaier, senior goalie Tyler Fiorito and sophomore midfielder Tom Schreiber, as well as All-Ivy League longstick midfielder John Cunningham.
