Kevin Gulyas, Steve Mussoline and Matt Savage combined for eight goals and seven assists to lead Allentown Central Catholic to a 13-7 victory over Wyomissing Wednesday in the opening round of the Pennsylvania Interscholasitic Athletic Association boys’ lacrosse tournament.
District 11 champion Allentown Central Catholic (19-4) – ranked No. 9 in the PA Media Rankings – advance to play Central Bucks East Saturday at a site and time to be determined. ACC defeated District 1 runner-up CB East – which edged Ridley, 6-5 on Wednesday – in the season’s first game, 10-8.
Allentown Central Catholic scored five goals in the first four minutes of the game and built a 5-1 lead. District 3 third-place finisher Wyomissing (19-4) eventually closed within 9-6 in the third quarter behind Garrett Zinn (four goals), Chris Wellock (two goals, one assist) and Grayson Helm (three assists), but the Vikings tallied four straight goals to ice it.
Wyomissing goaltender Ted Kolva recorded 14 saves.
Both teams have Philly club ties. Gulyas, Mussoline and Savage all play for Rebel Elite. Helm plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club.
