Public League playoffs: Girls’ High, G. Washington makes girls’ finals; Audenried boys advance to semis

No. 2 seed George Washington rallied in the second half to best No. 3 seed Mastery Charter, 6–4, today in a Public League lacrosse semifinal at Gratz.

Mastery led, 3-1, at the half. Katrine Metakova scored three goals for George Washington, while Tianna Fluck, Paige Sawyer and Veronica Hires each contributed a goal.

Patricia Helms, Megan Riley, Unique Jones and Briona Johnson scored one goal apiece for Mastery Charter.

George Washington will play top-seeded Girls’ High, a 21-3 winner over No. 4 seed Northeast, for the Public League Championship on Wednesday at 3:00 at Gratz.

Somaly Kim, Chasidy Mclaurin and Siena Childs each scored four goals while Chastity Mills and Tenee Pina each had three for Girls’ High to spark the rout of Northeast.

Amy Kao led Northeast with two goals.

Audenried 4, Delaware Valley Charter 3

No. 4 seed Audenried defeated No. 5 seed Delaware Valley Charter at South Philadelphia this afternoon in the first round of the Public League lacrosse playoffs.

With the win Audenried moves into the semifinals where they will take on No. 1 seed George Washington on Tuesday at 3:00 at Gratz. No. 2 seed Northeast will take on No. 3 seed Mastery Charter in the other semifinal game at Gratz immediately following the Audenried-George Washington game.

Audenried went ahead 1–0 when Justin Simmons took a pass from Tysheen Hunter and scored with only 3 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Simmons scored again in the second quarter on an assist from Dax Brown to put Audenried up 2–0.

Later in the second quarter, Del Val’s Gary Dowe cut the lead in half when he scored off an assist from Sambatt Choub. Audenried scored twice in the third period to open up a 3 goal lead.

Dax Brown scored the first goal with a feed from Darrien Glover. Alonzo Hill scored an unassisted goal to make the score 4–1 with 5:58 remaining in the third quarter. Several minutes later Del Val’s Paris Washington scored an unassisted goal to cut Audenried’s lead to 4–2 heading into the fourth quarter.

Washington scored a second unassisted goal for Del Val to make it a one-goal game with 5:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Marcus Washington recorded 7 saves in goal for Audenried.
