District 1 boys quarterfinals: Conestoga, Central Bucks East, Downingtown West, Pennsbury advance to semis

Cinderella team Pennsbury (13th seed) defeated fifth-seeded Avon Grove, 4-3, in double overtime today to join the top three seeds in the District 1 boys’ lacrosse semifinals.

Pennsbury’s win over the fifth-seeded Blue Devils at Henderson guaranteed the Falcons their first berth in the PIAA tournament. Pennsbury will face top-seeded Conestoga – a 14-1 winner over Abington – in the semis Tuesday at Plymouth Whitemarsh at 8 p.m.

The first semifinal game Tuesday (6 p.m.) will pit No. 2 seed Central Bucks East and No. 3 Downingtown West. Today at Harriton High, CB East toppled Ridley, 10-6, and Downingtown West routed Spring-Ford, 14-4.

In playbacks Tuesday, Ridley (No. 6 seed) will host Spring-Ford at a time to be determined and Avon Grove will host Abington at a time to be determined. The top five teams advance to the PIAA championships.
