For many college students, the future may look bright, but is not always clear.

Arcadia senior Kelly Donahue

But Arcadia senior defender Kelly Donahue – the Phillylacrosse.com Collegiate Scholar-Athlete of the Week – doesn’t miss a beat when she looks beyond graduation this May.

The Biology & Pre-Physical Therapy major from Central Bucks South plans on pursuing a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and working with stroke patients.

Donahue’s inspiration is her own father, who suffered a stroke eight years ago. “My dad is still paralyzed from it,” she said. “But he works hard, is in good spirits, and his mind is completely intact.”

Donahue, a Dean’s List member, also is clear about who she deems as her role models in life. Both her father and mother have inspired the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honoree.

With all the obstacles my dad had to overcome, she stands by him,” said Donahue.

Her parents have also impressed upon Donahue to reach out to others. She is a certified EMT, has assisted in clinics designed to teach lacrosse to youth, and participates in her church’s volunteer program. This summer, Donahue will be traveling to North Carolina to help rebuild and refurnish homes.

In addition to fostering her helpful nature, the dual-sport athlete (basketball and lacrosse) also points out that neither parent has missed a single one of her Arcadia sporting events.

This year, the Donahues and the entire Knights fan base were treated to a much improved women’s lacrosse team. With the help of Donahue, who controlled 37 groundballs, Arcadia finished 7-9 and made a serious challenge for a Middle Atlantic Conference playoff berth.

“We’re a very cohesive team,” she said. “We’ve been through a lot of transition. We are very determined, and, if we stick together, we will be successful.”

But no matter how clear her future plans are, Donahue becomes nostalgic when she talks about her college lacrosse experience. Speaking of her final game against Eastern, which resulted in a 17-6 loss for the Knights, Donahue gets reflective.

“I am definitely not ready for this day to come,” she says of her last lacrosse competition. “The way I walk off the field, though…I want to give everything I have and end on a good note.”
