Thursday’s boys’ roundup: Avon Grove remains undefeated; GA tops Downingtown East

Eric Waibel had two goals and an assist and Tommy Malone made eight saves as host Avon Grove defeated non-league foe Pennsbury, 5-3, tonight in a defensive battle to improve to 10-0.

The Devils, ranked No. 24 in the nation according to ESPN RISE and No. 3 in the state, also got a goal and two assists from Trevor Hornby.

Andrew Probst, Ricky Jutkiewicz and Luke Matthew each scored for the Falcons (6-4), while Drew Sweetland made eight saves.

Germantown Academy 8, Downingtown East 3

The Patriots improved to 9-1 as Reid Weber scored three goals.

Aaron Murphy had a pair for the Cougars (8-2).

Interboro 8, Southern Lehigh 7, OT

Hunter Jackalous (two goals, one assist) scored the game-winner in overtime and Ryan Stackowitz made 14 saves for the Bucs (5-2) in their non-league win.

Springfield-Delco 15, West Chester East 1

Joe Venit scored three goals and Jesse Martin added two goals and two assists while Dan O’Connell made seven stops to help the Cougars coast to the non-league win.

Haverford School 17, Radnor 3

Hup Hupfeldt scored three goals, Carl Walrath had two goals and four assists and Joe McCallion had two goals and an assist and won 6 of 8 face-offs as the top-ranked team in the nation improved to 12-0.

Tommy Hemcher scored twice for Radnor.

Spring-Ford 6, Hatboro-Horsham 5

Brian Bock and Matt Pham each scored two goals and Jared Novia made 10 saves as the Rams edged the Hatters in the non-league win.

Jimmy Murphy led the Hatters with two goals.

Lower Merion 6, Bayard Rustin 4

Chris Daly scored three goals and Max Golden, Desmond Ellis, James Burke, Cooper Eisenhard, Alex Simpson and Alek Klincewicz paced the defense for the Aces in the non-league win.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 12, Wissahickon 7

Colin Joka had five goals and Gryphin Kelly scored a pair and won 15 of 22 face-offs as the Colonials remained undefeated in the Suburban One American Conference.

Brooks Melvin led the Trojans with four goals and an assist.

Great Valley 11, Boyertown 6

Greg Merrill had four goals and an assist and Dan Buchholz added two goals and two assists while Peter Hayes made 13 saves to pace the Patriots to the non-league win.

Central Bucks West 11, Souderton 6

Jake Ross made 10 saves and Nate Weiss scored four goals to lead the Bucks to the Suburban One Continental win.

Bryan Zeigler scored three for the Indians.

Sun Valley 8, Haverford 7

Kyle Gillam had a hat trick and Brian Warren added two goals as the Vanguards overcame a six-goal effort by the Fords’ Mike Leyden.
