Girls’ lacrosse: Springfield-Delco deals Conestoga 1st loss; Carroll hands Notre Dame its 1st defeat

Alex Poplawski and Maddy Lynch each scored five goals to power host Springfield-Delco to a key 12-10 victory over previously-undefeated Conestoga Friday in Central League girls’ lacrosse.

The Cougars (6-1, 4-1) also got two goals from Courtney Kennedy.

Notre Dame’s Kaileen O'Donnell is defended by Archbishop Carroll’s Maddie Lesher (65) and Rachel Flynn (24) in Friday’s game. Carroll won, 15-14.

Conestoga, also 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the league, got three goals from Meg McGillis and Taylor Lawlor. Britta Hjelm and Claire Jackson each added a pair of goals.

Springfield-Delco entered play ranked No. 8 in the PA Media Rankings. Conestoga was No. 3.

Archbishop Carroll 15, Academy of Notre Dame 14

Rachel Flynn scored four goals and Hannah Schmitt had three goals and an assist while Gabbi Hull scored three more to help the visiting Patriots (7-1) deal the Irish their first loss of the year in a battle of two of Philly’s top-rated teams.

Maddie Lesher and Sam Moore each scored twice for Carroll, ranked No. in the PA Media Rankings.

Kristen Bandos had seven goals and an assists and Carlianne McCabe added three goals for Notre Dame (4-1), ranked No. 6 in the poll.
