Monday’s Philly boys’ roundup: Springfield-Delco, Methacton earn wins

Joe Venit scored six goals as visiting Springfield-Delco opened its 2011 season today by downing Cardinal O’Hara, 14-2.

Jesse Martin added two goals and three assists for the Cougars while Keith James had a goal and four assists and Dan O’Connell had eight saves.

The win gave the Cougars’ Tom Lemieux a victory in his coaching debut

Methacton 12, Upper Merion 8

The Warriors improved to 1-1 as Clay Sobocinski had three goals and four assists and Matt Brasher scored four goals and added one assist. Eli Miller added two goals and won 71% of his face-offs.

Scott Markle led Methacton with five groundballs and added an assist in transition. Ryan Murphy notched 12 saves on the day.

Trevor Kupecky led the Vikings (1-1) with three goals and three assists while Luc Minnich added four goals and an assist.

Sun Valley 10, Harriton 6

Sophomore Connor Johnson had four goals and Kyle Gillam added three goals and three assists for the Vanguards.

Jimmy Dicicco, Scott Scheurte and Avery Levonuk each scored two goals for the Rams.

Pennsbury 6, Penncrest 2

Andrew Probst scored three goals and Drew Sweetland made nine saves in a standout defensive effort as the host Falcons (2-0) earned a big win over the Central League Lions (1-1).
