Boys’ lacrosse: Conestoga defeats St. Joseph’s Prep, 12-9, to open season

Conestoga opened its defense of the Pennsylvania State lacrosse championship tonight with a scintillating 12-9 victory over visiting St. Joseph’s Prep.

Conestoga, ranked No. 1 in the PIAA in the State Media Rankings, was led by its all-junior attack of Bradlee Lord (three goals, two assists), Connor Frisina (3G, 1A), and Tyler Brooke (2G, 1A). Meanwhile, sophomore goalie Robbie Zonino, filling in for the injured John Lopes, had 10 saves – including two crucial stops with under two minutes to play.

Tanner Scott added two goals and junior Zach Gregory went 15 for 22 at the face off X as Conestoga tallied the final four goals of the game and scored three in the final two minutes to snap a 9-9 tie.

The Prep, ranked No. 3 in the PIAA, got three goals from Bradley James and two each from Cory Scheuerle and Fenton Fitzpatrick. Goalie Liam Correia (12 saves) also had a strong game.
