The Cabrini College women’s lacrosse team has been selected as the preseaon favorite by result of a poll conducted by the head coaches. Cabrini received a total of 79 points, including 7 first place votes. The Cavaliers will be looking for their third straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title after taking home the title in 2009 and 2010.
On offense the Blue & White will be led by 2010 CSAC first team all conference selection senior attack Jamie O’Hanlon (Springfield-Delco) as she was third on the team last year with 54 points on 36 goals and 18 assists. On defense the Cavaliers will look to 2010 CSAC second team all conference recipient senior defender Courtney Davis who led the team last year with 43 draw controls and 44 ground balls.
“We are looking forward to starting the 2011 season and competing for the CSAC title,” said Cabrini 15th -year head coach Jackie Neary, the former Ridley and Temple great. “It’s an especially exciting feeling this season as we are mixing a good number of returners with a talented new class.”
Conference runner-up, Gwynedd-Mercy College received two first place votes for a total of 67 points good enough to finish second in the poll. The Griffins will look to get back to the championship game behind two CSAC second team selections from a year ago, attack Colleen Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) and goalkeeper Trish Timony.
Only a point separated the third and fourth teams in the poll as Centenary College (57) edged Marywood University (56) for third. Centenary College returns 2010 CSAC first team honoree Lauren MaMotta on defense and honorable mention selections Allie Swartz, Danielle Bay and Alysia Pinkerton. Marywood will look to first team selections senior midfield Allie Sodl and junior attack Taylor McKeown to help the Pacers get back into the postseason.
Nemann University (44), Immaculata University (37), College of Notre Dame (34), Cedar Crest College (20) and Rosemont College (11) rounded out the voting.
