Wednesday’s men’s college roundup: Immaculata falls in opener to F&M; Dickinson tops Lycoming

Immaculata University’s men’s lacrosse team dropped its 2011 season opener today to Franklin & Marshall, 11-4.

Brendan Dinneen (Archbishop Wood) paced the Mighty Macs with one goal and one assist. Joey Shallow (Lower Merion), Dante Tuscai (West Chester East) and Mike Boyd (Perkiomen Valley) all had one goal.

Jim Baranello (Haverford High) forced four turnovers and collected six ground balls. Max Bassett also scooped up five loose balls while freshman goalie John Diodati (Henderson) made 13 saves.

Billy Kempner led F@M (1-0) with three goals and an assist and James Wenk and Tim Gaines each had a pair while Kevin Kilpatrick (Salesianum School/West Chester) had a goal and an assist.

Boyd and Dinneen’s goals helped Immaculata keep it close in the first quarter, and answered F&M’s three goals.

However, Franklin & Marshall put three goals on the scoreboard in each the second and third quarters to lead, 9-2, heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Shallow and Tuscai scored within the first three minutes of the final quarter, cutting Immaculata’s deficit to 9-4. But, Franklin & Marshall added two more goals, and the Mighty Macs couldn’t find the back of the end again.

Dickinson 13, Lycoming 6

Richard Craft (Episcopal Academy) had a goal and an assist and Matt Cherry (Radnor) added two assist to pace the Devils in their opener at Lycoming.
