Great Valley senior midfielder Gavin Wilson has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Goucher College (Md.)
Goucher, coached by Kyle Hannan, won its first Landmark Conference championship last year and earned its first NCAA playoff berth last year (14-4).
“On my visit, I really liked the coach,” Wilson said. “He runs a fast offense and lets the players play their own game, but also has set plays.
“The campus (located in Towson) was just perfect for me,” he added. “I loved it.”
Wilson will major in Physics and then plans to transfer to Johns Hopkins and study Civil Engineering for two years.
Wilson is one of seven players who have made college commitments for Great Valley. Senior midfielder Eric Gartner signed with Division I Villanova and junior defenseman Ben Hughes Jr has committed to High Point (N.C.). Four others are committed to Division III schools: Peter Pappas (MF/face-off) and defenseman Ryan Wheeler (Gwynedd Mercy College), goalie Nick DiPiano (Eastern) and LSM Jesse Horn (Stevenson).
Wilson believes his team can contend in the Ches-Mont League. Last year the Patriots started slowly, but finished strong and this year they return much of their nucleus.
“I am looking forward to it,” he said. “I think we are going to do really well this season.”
