Malvern Prep junior LSM/defenseman Kevin Samolsky has made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse and enter the admissions process for the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.
Samolsky was a member of a Friars team that shared the Inter-Ac League championship last year (13-8 record overall) with Haverford School. He plays club lacrosse for HEADstrong Green.

“My uncle is my inspiration,” Samolsky said. “I want to go to Navy because I believe it’s the best place for me to complete the goals in my life. I love the academics and along with that they have a great lacrosse program. They have a great camaraderie on the team.”
Samolsky, who has been on the Distinguished Honor Roll or in First Honors every marking period at Malvern Prep, plans to study Mechanical Engineering and aspires to be a Navy SEAL.
“I’d like to try to be a Navy SEAL,” he said. “I want to be part of the best in the Special Forces.”
Samolsky is the third Malvern Prep junior pole to commit to a Division I college. earlier Eddie Morris committed to Johns Hopkins and Jack Sheridan committed to Notre Dame. Also, two Friar seniors – LSM Jack Morgenthaler and attackman TJ Hanzsche – have committed to Navy.
In all Malvern Prep has seen nine players commit to Division I colleges. Seniors Keith Dreyer (Air Force, midfielder), Drew Kennedy (Johns Hopkins, face-off specialist), Vince Travaglini (Massachusetts, midfielder) and Mike Dougherty (St. Joseph’s, attackman) also have committed.
Samolsky is confident the Friars can defend their Inter-Ac championship despite the fact Haverford School – which has 12 seniors committed to Division I colleges – will go in as the favorite. Last year the Friars swept the Fords in two classic battles.
“I believe we still have the same expectations as last year,” Samolsky said. “Our ultimate goal is to win the Inter-Ac to beat Haverford School. We’re not going to look at them any differently because they have 12 D1 recruits. Usually when we play them it’s a battle.
“Last year we definitely dropped a few games we thought we could have won. Our other goal is to improve on our overall record.”
