Delbarton junior midfielder Kieran Kenny has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.

Kenny helped Delbarton finish 9-8 last year. He plays club lacrosse for Patriot Elite.

Kenny, a consistent High Honors student, plans to study business at Villanova, which went 10-5 under coach Michael Corrado in 2010.

“I choose Villanova because it has a great up-and-coming lacrosse team combined with a fantastic academic opportunity,” Kenny said. “Also, the coaches and players on the team were all very welcoming, and after my first visit I could tell that this is the kind of place I wanted to be at.”

One of Kenny’s attributes is his speed. He broke the state record for the 100m dash in the U-15 age group several years ago.

Kenny has been recovering from a broken collarbone suffered during the summer at the Top 205 Showcase. But he expects to be ready for the 2011 season and for Delbarton – a state champion and runner-up in the Tournament of Champions in 2009 – to challenge again for a state crown in 2011.

“We had a disappointing season last year,” he said, “but this year we have a very strong team and are looking to capture our first state championship since 2007.
