North Penn rising senior defender Victoria Brady has made a verbal commitment
to play Division I lacrosse at St. Joseph’s University.
Brady was an Honorable Mention Suburban One Continental Conference pick last spring for a Maidens team (19-4 overall) that won the league title and advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championships.
Brady, who plays club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal, collected 21 groundballs and 14 caused turnovers in 2010. She played for Philly 2 at the National Tournament in May.
Brady, a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll, plans to major in nursing or Physician’s Assistant Studies.
“I was looking for that perfect fit and I wanted to be close to home and at a Division I school,” she said. “I liked the environment and I really liked the coach (Denise Roessler)
“St. Joe’s isn’t too big or too small and I like that it’s close to the city but not in the city. It was a good mixture for me.”
Brady will follow two recent North Penn grads to St. Joe’s: defender Brittany Hanrahan (freshman) and midfielder Julie Mineweaser (junior). Brady is the second Philly girls to commit to St. Joe’s from this class; the other is Archbishop Carroll’s Nora McGeever (goalie).
“I thought it was a great experience,” said Brady, who also was a member of North Penn’s cross-country team, a state runner-up. “So many people thought a team from the Suburban One couldn’t get there (states), but we worked together as a team and got farther than anyone thought we would.
“Hopefully next year we’ll go even further.”
