The Philadelphia Wings got their first National Lacrosse League victory of the 2010 season and first ever over the Boston Blazers franchise tonight when they claimed a 12-8 victory before 9,330 at the Wachovia Center.
The triumph was a complete team effort on both sides of the ball as Philadelphia (1-1) held 2009 NLL MVP Dan Dawson to only two assists, goalie Brandon Miller made 27 of 28 saves in the second half and Drew Westervelt led a balanced attack with two goals and three assists.
The Wings iced the game with the only three goals of the final period as Kyle Wailes, Dan Teat and Jason Crosbie each contributed two goals and Geoff Snider and Mat Giles each had a goal and three assists. Also, Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco) had a goal and two assists and Bill McGlone (Ridley) tallied a goal and an assist.
Nick Cotter had three goals and two assists for the Blazers (0-3).
The Wings next home game is Saturday, January 23 vs. the Colorado Mammoth at the Wachovia Center.
