In a game that featured five fights and 181 minutes in penalties, the host Philadelphia Wings defeated the Boston Blazers, 13-7, Saturday night for their second straight win before 11,241 at the Wachovia Center.

Drew Westervelt led the Wings with three goals and four assists and Geoff Snider won 21 of 23 face-offs while adding a goal and two assists.

The first half of the game was evenly contested between both clubs as each attempted to establish its physical presence to gain the advantage. Boston took an early lead with a goal one minute into the first quarter. The teams traded goals for the next two quarters with the first which resulted in a slight edge for the Blazers at 5-4 going into the locker room.

Philadelphia came out in the third quarter with two quick goals from Bill McGlone (Ridley) and Kyle Wailes, which changed the momentum.

Boston was only able to get one ball past goaltender Brandon Miller (36 saves), who was named the game MVP. Due to Miller’s athletic play and a smothering defense from his teammates, the Wings took complete control of the game – which increasingly became more physical.

The Wings outscored the Blazers, 5-1, in the final period and after David Mitchell put Philadelphia up 12-7, the tension between the teams erupted. After a series of roughing penalties were awarded to either side, the Wings smallest player Jordan Levine (5’8”) dropped the gloves with Boston’s Jon Harnett (6’1”).

After the fight had been cleared, just three seconds into play Wing Geoff Snider squared off with Blazer Paul Dawson. As the two traded blows, Philadelphia defenders Taylor Wray and Thomas Hajek had found their own opponents in Dan Dawson and Jack Reid.
