Lower Merion’s Jordan Wolf (headed to Duke) scored three goals and added one assist and Haverford School’s Liam O’Connor (Notre Dame) scored once while winning 21 of 33 face-offs and scooping 16 groundballs for the South All-Stars tonight in a 17-12 loss to the North in the annual Under Armour All-American Game at Towson University.

The South also included Conestoga defenseman Casey Ikeda (two groundballs, one caused turnover) and Malvern Prep goalie Andrew O’Connell (10 saves, eight goals against). Ikeda is headed to Maryland and O’Connell to North Carolina.

Wolf and O’Connor were especially impressive in the first half.

After the North seized a 3-2 lead with 7:30 to play in the opening period, O’Connor won a face-off and needed just five seconds to sprint downfield and tie the game.

Wolf tallied his first goal of the game off a strong dodge from X with 3:26 to play in the first period to put the South ahead, 5-4.

Wolf scored again with 51 seconds left in the quarter on a man-down situation as he beat his man and ripped a 10-yarder home for a 6-5 lead. Wolf scored his third goal with 4:25 left in the third period to pull his team within 10-8.

Inside Lacrosse recognized all four Philly players in its blog on the game’s 10 players who impressed.

Wolf was listed as No. 3 and praised for his first step from X and as well as his speed. Ikeda was listed as No. 4 and recognized for his ability to clear. O’Connor was No. 7 and noted for his face-off skills and transition goal. O’Connell was listed with the entire group of four goalies at No. 10.
