Tuesday’s girls’ District 1 roundup: U. Dublin survives scare from Avon Grove; Wissahickon, NP, Abington, Unionville Conestoga win

Amy Cross scored the game-winner with one minute to play off an assist from sister Kelly Cross as host and undefeated Upper Dublin survived a major scare and defeated Avon Grove, 11-10, today in a District 1 girls’ lacrosse playoff game.

The Cardinals (18-0), seeded eighth, advance to play ninth-seeded Conestoga Thursday at home. Avon Grove, the 25th seed overall and sixth-place finisher in the Ches-Mont League, closed at 10-8.

Amy Cross led UD with three goals and three assists while Emily Hitchings and Brooke Callahan each had two goals and one assist. Jordan O’Reilly added a pair of goals and Kelly Cross had a goal and three assists while Kathleen Speese scored once.

Rachel Guarneri had 16 saves in goal in a masterful effort for the Devils. Kasey Callaway and Hanna Fenstermacher each had three goals and two assists for Avon Grove while Emma LaMontagne, Kaeli MacArthur, Abby Wheble, Aliea MacArthur had one goal apiece.

Wissahickon 12, Garnet Valley 10

Samantha Stutman had three goals and one assist and Aubrey Bossert contributed three goals and three draw controls while Hilary Hunter added two goals, two assists and two draw controls as the host Trojans defeated the Jaguars.

Jackie Hibbs added five groundballs for the Trojans, who improved to 17-2.

For Garnet Valley, Tori Mitros had three goals and two assists and Natalie Ling scored twice.

North Penn 13, Methacton 8

Garrie Grenfell collected five goals and two assists and Abbie Hartman pumped in five goals while adding four groundballs for the Maidens.

Dani Horn added one goal and four assists and Brenda McDermott had five groundballs for the Maidens. Kaitlin Colbridge had four groundballs and Sarah Prall made nine saves.

Megan Nearing led the Warriors with four goals.

Abington 14, Downingtown West 12

Molly Seefried poured in six goals and Courtney Cox had three goals and one assist for the Ghosts.

Carli Fitzgerald added two goals, two assists and four groundballs while Liz Wilson had a goal, six draw controls, six groundballs and five caused turnovers on defense and Court Enderle scooped four groundballs.

Unionville 20, Bishop Shanahan 4

Julia Moran and Lindsey Smith each scored five goals and Erin Linthicum had four tallies to lead the Indians.

Lisa Riondet and Julie Trulock added two goals each and Melissa Lloyd was strong in the cage with 14 saves.

Hannah Goforth scored two goals for Shanahan.

Conestoga 12, Pennridge 1

Amanda Norcini scored three goals and Brooke McGillis added two goals and four assists to pace the Pioneers.

Meghan McGillis added two goals and an assist and Kelly Morrison scored two goals for Conestoga.

Boyertown 19, Mount St. Joseph 9

Raelynn Mikell collected four goals and three assists and Emily Austerberry had three goals and three assists for the Bears.

Rachel Engler and Brooke Fisher each added three goals and Kelly Furman had two goals and one assist while Jaime Vincent scored twice and Lindsay Clinton made 10 saves

Corrine Caracausa led the Mlount with four goals while Melissa Gavin added two.

Merion Mercy 19, Souderton 13

Casey Rooney had four goals and an amazing nine assists to lead the Bears.

Emily Corcoran had four goals and two assists while Margaret Corzel, Juliann D’Orazio and Courtney Devine each recorded three goals. Sarah Hospodar dominated on draws, and goalie Caili Guilday recorded 12 saves.

Danielle Notvest tallied five goals for the Indians and Kirstin Russell added three goals and three assists while Melinda Wojt scored twice and Lindsay Walbrandt had a goal and four assists. Kait Crouthamel had a solid game in goal with 16 saves.

Radnor 24, Owen J. Roberts 2

Allie Martin collected six goals and three assists and Courtney Campbell pumped in six goals while Kelyn Freedman had a goal while tying a school record with nine assists as the No. 1 Red Raiders rolled.

Leah Gallagher, Amalia Antonoplos, Kristen Norden, Natalie Miller and Ellie Kraus each scored twice for Radnor.

Downingtown East 18, Pottstown 5

Kelly Devlin collected four goals and six assists and McKenzie Rafferty scored four goals while Emily Solenberger had three goals and three assists for the Cougars. Ashley Poli added three goals and Allie Murray made 18 saves for Downingtown East.

Kasey Mock led the Trojans with three goals and one assist.

Great Valley 18, West Chester East 5

Colleen O’Malley poured in seven goals and Jess Nawojski had six goals and one assist as the Patriotrs coasted to the victory.

Allison Tizio and Julia Falcone each scored two goals for East.

Strath Haven 14, Springfield-Montco 9

Jenna Frost notched five goals and Ana White added three goals and four assists while Alex Duckenfield had two goals and four assists for the Panthers.

Morgan Smith led the Spartans with five goals and Anna Studenmund added two goals.

Harriton 12, Ridley 8

Jess Schwab collected five goals and two assists and Carli Sukonik scored three goals while Laura Walzer added a pair as the 21st-seeded Rams topped the Central League rival Green Raiders (12th seed).

Lacey Doubet led Ridley with four goals and Kelsey Garraty added a pair.

Springfield-Delco 17, Central Bucks East 6

Maddy Lynch scored four goals while Alex Poplawski and Valerie Paolucci each tallied three and Nathalie Basunga and Shannon Burns each scored two for the No. 3 Cougars.

Jamie Burns had two goals for CB East.
