Tuesday’s boys’ roundup: EA tops GA in Inter-Ac touney; Shipley advances to finals of Friends League playoffs

Tyler Odell and Chase Growney each scored two goals and Tyler Morrell posted 10 saves in goal as host Episcopal Academy defeated Germantown Academy, 7-5, in the first round of the Inter-Ac League invitational tournament.

The win advances the third-seeded Churchmen (15-5) into the semifinals Friday (5 p.m.) against second-seeded Malvern Prep. Haverford School and Lawrenceville School (N.J.), which defeated Penn Charter today, will meet in the other semifinal at 7 p.m.

Sam Lawlor, Shane Morrell and Gerry Smith each scored once for EA.

Lawrenceville School (NJ) 17, Penn Charter 9

The fifth-seeded visitors bolted to a 9-2 halftime lead and coasted into the Inter-Ac semifinals. Lawrenceville (10-6) – which fell to PC, 10-8, three days earlier – will face top-seeded Haverford School Friday at 7 p.m. at Cabrini.

Shipley School 19, Westtown 0

Matt Gagnier had five goals and one assist and Mike Litner added three goals and two assists while Julius Mouser contributed two goals and six assist to lift the host Gators (15-2) to a shutout over Westtown in the Friends Schools League semifinals.

Nick Sterge added one goals and four assists for Shipley, which hosts Academy of the New Church Friday at 4 p.m. in the league title game.

Ian McGibbon and Christian Whyte each posted three saves to each the shutout.
