American University head women’s lacrosse coach Laura Campbell has announced that seniors Lisa Schaaf (Perkiomen Valley), Brit Ferguson, and Erin McDevitt will serve as tri-captains for the 2011 season.
Schaaf will serve as a tri-captain for the third consecutive season after notching 22 points last year. The Collegeville, Pa. native recorded two three-goal games last season and finished fourth on the team with 19 goals, two of which were game-winners. Schaaf also tallied four assists, six ground balls and one turnover.
Ferguson, a midfielder from Wilton, Conn., ranked fifth in the Patriot League last season with 2.40 draw controls per game. She registered 12 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers in 2010 while also scoring four goals. In her three years at American, Ferguson has started 49 games and notched 23 goals.
McDevitt started nine games last season, recording eight ground balls and causing five turnovers. A native of Drexel Hill, Pa., McDevitt picked up nine ground balls and created two turnovers during her sophomore campaign.
“Brit, Lisa, and Erin bring passion, determination, positivity, and a true sense of team with them every time they step on that field,” Campbell stated. “Those traits are pivotal to being great captains. I think all of our student-athletes can truly learn from all they have to offer both on the field, in the classroom and as leaders.
“I know that these tri-captains will be great influences on all of our student-athletes as we make a run at bringing home the Patriot League Championship.”
