Public League lacrosse: G. Washington girls finish 5-0; boys’ and girls’ teams gear for playoffs

The George Washington girls’ lacrosse team finished off a perfect Public League season Thursday by defeating Mastery Charter-Pickett, 11-3.

Deidre Etim made 10 saves in goal and Tianna Fluck led the attack with three goals and. Katrina Metelkova added two goals and two assist and Victoria Poberezhynuk added two goals and one assist while Julie Poberezhnyuk added two goals. Jacee Kelley added a goal and an assist and Alia Williams scored once.

With this win, George Washington finished the regular season as the undefeated (5-0) league champion. The George Washington boys’ team is also undefeated (5-0) in league play as it gears for its final game Monday against Audenried.

This coming week the Public High School Lacrosse Mini-Tournaments will be held at the Gratz Supersite, (Germantown Ave and Staub St.) On May 18 the girls’ lacrosse programs will play each other beginning at 3 p.m. On May 20 the boys’ teams will play each other beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Midway through the games the league will acknowledge the contributions made by the lacrosse community to this inaugural year of lacrosse in the public high schools of Philadelphia.
