Morning game notes and quotes from seniors (Class of 2011) at the Philly Boys’ Lacrosse Showcase:
La Salle senior defenseman Jim DeCarlo (Team 7): “Our goals were to play well. We don’t really know each other, but we’re getting better as we go. The first game was shaky, but the second game we pressured the ball and we got to them.
“My individual goal is to play hard and make the all-star team at 1 p.m., and just have fun. It doesn’t matter where I go play (in college); if I go play club, I’ll be happy with that, too.”
Jack O’Neill, Unionville face-off specialist (Team 11): “In my first game we started pout well, but we couldn’t get the ball in the goal so we lost. I think I won 12 of 14 face-offs. In the second game, it was the same thing. We shot a lot, but we couldn’t put it in.
“I think I won 10 out of 12 in the second game, so I’m doing well. I have a couple colleges here to look at me, so we’ll see what happens.”
(Note: DeCarlo and O’Neill were later named to the Gait Fab Forty all-star teams.)
Matt Brodzik, Central Bucks East midfielder (Team 1): “It’s a nice day and a lot of coaches here so it’s a good afternoon. I’m looking at a few D1 schools and a few D3 schools. I am not sure. I need a good mix of academics because I want to study Engineering.”
Thomas Mitchell, Archbishop Carroll goalie (Team 14): “Our team went 2-1 and personally, I thought i did my best. I did what I could to impress the coaches; it’s your last chance being a senior. I had a great day. It was a fun experience, playing with kids from like 20 different states and Canada. I met a bunch of new people.”
