Midfielder Pat Heim (Conestoga) and defenseman Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco) lead the top-seeded Boston Cannons in the semifinals of the Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend Saturday in Annapolis, Md.
Boston (8-4 regular season) will take on fourth-seeded Chesapeake (6-6) at Noon ET. The other semifinals (3 p.m.) features the second-seeded Denver Outlaws (8-4) against the third-seeded Long Island Lizards (7-5).
The two winners will meet on Sunday at 1 PM ET for the MLL Championship. All games will be aired live on ESPN2 and espn3.com.
All three games will be played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Heim had 14 goals and 2 assists while Sweeney – who helped lead Team USA to the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship last month in Manchester, England – has five goals and two assists.
Chesapeake features face-off specialist Alex Smith (University of Delaware). Smith (two goals) also was a key member of Team USA’s drive to the FIL crown.
Long Island features two Springfield-Delco grads, goalie Drew Adams and midfielder/face-off specialist Greg Gurenlian. Adams is 7-5 with a league-leading 11.53 goals against average and 147 saves (.519 percentage). Gurenlian has eight goals and is 84-90 on his draws.
Denver features rookie defenseman Ken Clausen (Hill School), the four-time All-American from Virginia.
The Chicago Machine finished out of the playoffs in fifth place with a 4-8 mark. The Machine featured midfielder Bill McGlone (Ridley), who had 17 goals and five assists; and defenseman DJ Driscoll (Malvern Prep). Driscoll also was a member of Team USA.
