St. Joseph’s Prep senior midfielder John Gregitis has made a verbal commitment to play Division III lacrosse at the University of Scranton.
Gregitis has been a mainstay on a Hawks team that is ranked No. 5 in the PA Media Rankings (for the PIAA) at 10-7 and will head into the Catholic League playoffs as the Southern Division champion.
“I chose Scranton because of the location and the fact that it was in a city,” said Gregitis. “Scranton is not a huge city like Philadelphia, but it has everything you need.
“Also, Scranton is not too big, but also not too small with around 5,000 undergraduate students. Coach (Tim) Marshall is a great guy and I fell in love with Scranton the first time I visited.”
Scranton is already stocked with Philly grads; 11 players from Philly played for the Royals this year. One is another St. Joe’s product, sophomore John McShea.
Gregitis plans to study Business.
“The business school is state of the art with brand new computers and classrooms,” he said. “When it came down to making the decision I wanted to go somewhere where I could be happy and still play lacrosse, and Scranton fulfills both of these.”
