Malvern Prep senior midfielder/attackman Colin Farrell has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Dickinson College.

Farrell was a contributor on a Friars team that shared the Inter-Ac League championship last year with Haverford School and finished 13-8. He plays club lacrosse for Team HEADstrong.

A member of the National Honors Society, Farrell plans to major in Political Science or Economics. He said he was impressed with the school’s academics and improvement last year under coach Dave Webster, whose Red Devils went 15-3 and were ranked among the top 10 in the nation for much of the year.

“They had a great year,” Farrell said. “Coach Webster has them going in the right direction and I think they are really and up-and-coming team. They have a great work ethic and I think that was a big reason for their success.”

Farrell joins midfielder Matt Neeson (Denison) as Malvern Division III recruits. Also, Friar seniors Jack Morgenthaler (MF, Navy), TJ Hanzsche (ATT, Navy), Drew Kennedy (face-offs, Johns Hopkins), Keith Dreyer (MF, Air Force), Mike Dougherty (ATT, St. Joseph’s) and Vince Travaglini (MF, Massachusetts) and junior defenseman Eddie Morris (Johns Hopkins) have committed to Division I colleges.

Farrell is excited about the 2011 season and the addition of newly-hired head coach David Metzbower, who had 20 years of experience as an assistant at Princeton before assisting at Haverford School last year.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Farrell said. “It’s a huge pickup for Malvern; he’ll have us going in the right direction. We have a lot of great talent and some guys that have flown under the radar that are ready to step up and make a name for themselves.

“We’re going to be kind of an underdog in the league, but with our talent we’ll make a lot of noise.”

Farrell wished to thank his parents and former Malvern Prep coaches Dan and Mike Keating as well as the HEADstrong Elite coaching staff for helping in his development and recruiting.
