Malvern Prep’s Jackson leads Villanova men’s recruits for class of 2014

Villanova men’s lacrosse Head Coach Michael Corrado is set to welcome the addition of 10 student-athletes for the 2010-2011 academic year, led by Malvern Prep midfielder Mark Jackson.

The class of 2014 features three high school all-America selections, five all-state honorees and hail from five different states across the East Coast. Additionally, all 10 student-athletes were multi-sport competitors in high school and include a balanced mix of one attackman, five midfielders and four defensemen.

Joining the Wildcats next fall are Jackson (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep), Christopher Conroy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), Thomas Croonquist (North Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), Alex Garrison (New Canaan, Conn./The Taft School), Wilson Kistler (Potomac, Md./St. Albans), John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex Regional), Kevin O’Neil (Cockeysville, Md./Boys’ Latin), Chris Piccirilli (Davidsonville, Md./Archbishop Spalding), Remington Pope (Boston, Mass./The Governor’s Academy) and Jimmy Wyatt (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional).

“We’re pleased to welcome the newest additions of Villanova lacrosse players for the upcoming season. This class has proven to be one of the best collections of high school players in the country and they will undoubtedly make an immediate impact on our team as we look toward the 2011 season,” says Corrado.

The Recruits:

Mark Jackson
Midfield
5-10, 195lbs.

At Malvern Prep: Led Malvern Prep to a 2010 Inter-AC Co-Championship, guiding the team to a 6-2 conference record as a midfielder… Led the team with 32 goals, adding 11 assists and 42 groundballs for his senior season… Named a 2010 first team All-Inter-AC selection… Was a two-time national champion with the Duke’s Lacrosse Club… Also earned the coaches award and named team MVP as a point guard for the basketball team… Member of the National Honor Society and earned first honors over his four years at Malvern Prep.

Christopher Conroy
Defense
6-1, 200lbs.
At Chatham: Earned three varsity letters at Chatham, guiding the team to an 11-7 record and serving as team captain in 2010… Earned second team All-Group 1 and all-conference honors in 2010… 2010 Daily Record All-Area team… Also lettered in football and basketball… Named 2009 second team all-conference and team defensive MVP in football as a linebacker and running back… Earned second team all-conference, all-county and all-area honors in basketball in his senior season as a point guard.

Thomas Croonquist
Midfield/Face-off
5-11, 195lbs.
At Seton Hall Prep: Earned three varsity letters under Coach Dave Giarrusso while serving as team captain… Led the team to a 2010 Essex County Tournament Championship… Garnered a 75% face-off win percentage, winning 290/386 attempts from the X… Notched 204 ground balls in 2010, setting a Seton Hall Prep single-season record… 2010 first team all-state selection, first team All-Fitch-Pitt and Coaches Award recipient… Also earned four varsity letters in ice hockey as a center… Two-time All-Essex County second team selection and team MVP… Member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society… Received the Monsignor Thomas J. Tuohy Award for having a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Alex Garrison
Midfield
6-2, 175lbs.
At The Taft School: Earned four varsity letters as a midfielder for the Taft School, guiding the team to a 10-6 record his senior season… Tallied 17 goals and 12 assists in his final year of high school lacrosse… Also earned one varsity letter in track… Member of the honor roll.

Wilson Kistler
Midfield
6-1, 210lbs.
At St. Albans: Earned two varsity letters under Coach Malcolm Lester as a midfielder… Posted 48 goals, 19 assists and 27 groundballs in his senior season… 2010 Greater Washington Sports Alliance Baltimore/Washington High School All-Tewaaraton Team nominee… 2009 Under Armour Washington-Area Team… 2009 Maryland Free State Team… Also lettered in ice hockey and football at St. Albans, winning the IAC Championship in 2009 as a nose tackle and member on special teams.

John LoCascio
Defense
5-11, 190lbs.
At West Essex Regional: Earned four varsity letters under Coach Tim Glenn, guiding West Essex to a 14-5 record in 2010… Named a 2010 first team All-American, All-State Group 1, all-conference, all-division and All-Star Ledger selection… Posted a career and season record for both ground balls and caused turnovers… Earned 2009 first team all-state, all-conference and all-division laurels while helping West Essex claim top honors in the Essex County Tournament… Also earned varsity letters in football, basketball and wrestling, where he was a third team all-state selection at quarterback, running back and fullback… Captured a 2009-2010 District 13 wrestling championship at 215lbs… Member of the National Honor Society.

Kevin O’Neil
Attack/Midfield
6-2, 180lbs.
At Boys’ Latin: Earned two varsity letters under Coach Bob Shriver as a midfielder, helping Boys’ Latin earn the No. 10 position in the final Under Armour High School Power Rankings… Guided the team to a 16-4 overall record in 2010, going undefeated in their division and were MIAA Conference runners-up… Tallied 35 goals and 15 assists in his senior season… Earned two varsity letters in football as a quarterback, leading the 2009 team to a 10-0 undefeated regular-season record… Received the prestigious 2010 Jack H. Williams Award, given annually as the top sportsmanship award at Boys’ Latin… Honor Roll student.

Chris Piccirilli

At Archbishop Spalding: Earned two varsity letters under Coach Zach Burke… Captained Archbishop Spalding to a 10-10 record in his senior season, earning a berth to the MIAA playoffs… Tallied three goals, four assists and 71 groundballs on close defense… Named a 2010 Adidas All-American and U.S. Lacrosse Senior Showcase All-Star… Named a first team Anne Arundel All-County selection… Lettered in football at tight and defensive end, where he was an all-state and MIAA All-Conference selection… National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and Baltimore Touchdown Club All-Star… Member of the National Honor Society… Fr. Remington Pope

At The Governor’s Academy: Earned three varsity letters under Coach Peter Bidstrup… Captained the 2010 team to a 14-2 record in the ISL as a long-stick midfielder… Named a 2010 U.S. Lacrosse All-American… Garnered All-ISL and All-New England accolades… Selected as an East-West Senior All-Star and Top 205 All-Star… Member of the Under Armour Underclassmen Games for team New England… 2009-2010 Captain of NESLL U-19 Black Team… Also earned four varsity letters in football as a running back and cornerback, earning all-league and team MVP honors… Recipient of the Goodwin Athletic Award, given to the most outstanding senior athlete at The Governor’s Academy… Member of the honor roll and high honor roll.

Jimmy Wyatt

At Hunterdon Central Regional: Earned three varsity letters under Coach Mike Vergalito… Named to the 2010 New Jersey All-State second team, first team All-Area Courier News and Skyland Conference first team… 2010 all-star game participant … Totaled 60 goals and 38 assists in his four-year career… Captured 108 groundballs in his senior season… Earned two varsity letters in football as a wide receiver and cornerback, totaling 83 receptions, 658 yards, 18 touchdowns, 133 tackles, seven interceptions and nine pass deflections for his career… Named to the 2009 Star-Ledger All-West Jersey Offense second team, Courier News All-Groups all-area offense second team, Trenton Times All-Area Offense second team and Mid-State 39 All-Division team… 2010 National Honor Society President… 2009-2010 Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete Award… Principal’s Honor Roll.
