Malvern Prep rising junior Atkinson is top scorer for France in FIL World Championships

Russell Atkinson, a rising junior midfielder at Malvern Prep, is the leading scorer through four games for Team France at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships in Manchester, England.

Atkinson has five goals and two assists for France, which is off to a 0-4 start after today’s 15-4 loss to Austria. Atkinson has scored one-third of France’s 15 goals, and also leads with team with 10 penalties.

France’s offensive coordinator is Russ Atkinson, Russell’s father and the head coach at Devon Prep as well as a coach and director at Conestoga Youth Lacrosse. A third Philly member of the team is recent Hill School graduate James Brenner, a midfielder.

France concludes pool play tomorrow against Mexico.
