Attackman Westy Hopkins, a key member of two state championship teams at La Salle, has been named as the nation’s fourth best freshman coming from post-graduate schools in the month’s issue of Lacrosse Magazine.
Hopkins – who will attend national finalist Notre Dame – prepped this year at Lawrenceville School (N.J.), and collected 35 goals and 21 assists while earning the Chambers Award for the team’s player of the year. Hopkins also was named the Star-Ledger Prep Player of the Year in helping the Big Red finish 12-8 and reach the semifinals of the Inter-Ac League Invitational.
Hopkins was a two-year starter at La Salle who scored 37 goals and earned Academic All-American honors in his senior year in 2009 when the Explorers won the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championship.
