Friday’s scholastic boys’ roundup: Downingtown East topples Avon Grove, 12-4, to force three-way tie atop Ches-Mont League standings

Shane Sturgis had five goals and three assists as host Downingtown East outscored Avon Grove, 8-1, in the second half and earned a 12-4 victory tonight in a key Ches-Mont League game, forcing a three-way tie atop the league standings.

The Cougars (7-8 overall) and Devils (11-3), along with Downingtown West lead the league with 7-1 marks. They each have two games remaining.

Ken Maas added two goals and two assists for the Cougars while Rob Fitzgerald had two goals and KevinClarke was strong at the face-off X.

Tim Golder led Avon Grove with a pair of goals.

Shipley 15, Westtown 2

The Gators improved to 14-2 (5-0 Friends Schools League) in their league finale as Julius Mouser had four goals and two assists and Mac Gallagher added three goals and three assists.

Wissahickon 19, Cheltenham 0

Brian Dick had three goals and three assists, Nick Lucchesi scored three goals and AJ Andersen addedtwo goals and two assists for the Trojans (11-4, 11-), who need to defeat Upper Merion Tuesday to win the Suburban One American Conference title.

Pennsbury 13, Council Rock South 1

Shawn Caven had two goals and four assists and Calvin Hopkins added two goals and two assists for the Falcons.

Emmaus 15, Nazareth 0

Danny Kinek had four goals as the Green Hornets (10-6, 9-0) remained perfect n the Lehigh Valley Conference.

Lansdale Catholic 17, Father Judge 3

Sean Rooney fired in seven goals and Liam Malley collected three goals and eight assists as the Crusaders claimed the Catholic League win.

La Salle 17, Archbishop Ryan 0

The Explorers improved to 12-2 with the Catholiic League shutout.
