As many as 10,000 people are expected to attend the 4th annual Nick Colleluori Classic Saturday and Sunday at Ridley High.

The event, which features 20 men’s college teams in the year’s biggest Fall Ball tournament, raises money for the HEADstrong Foundation and its mission to fight blood cancer through research and awareness. The tournament is named after the founder of HEADstrong, Ridley grad Nick Colleluori, who passed away four years ago after a battle against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while a student-athlete at Hofstra University.

The tourney is split up into a Division 1 field (Saturday) and a Division II/III field (Sunday).

Philly teams Lehigh, St. Joseph’s and Villanova will be joined Saturday by Hofstra, Towson, Cornell, Mount St. Mary’s, Fairfield, Detroit Mercy and Presbyterian.

On Sunday, the field features many Philly squads – Division II Chestnut Hill College as well as Division III programs Cabrini, Neumann, Penn State Abington, Ursinus, Eastern, Widener and Immaculata. The others are nearby schools Stockton (NJ) and Wesley (DE).

Each participating team sold HEADstrong T-Shirts on their campuses. To date the Nick Colleluori Lacrosse Classic has raised more than $425,000 toward The HEADstrong Foundation’s mission.

To drive home the HEADstrong mission, and to allow the teams to experience the importance of their hard work, each team will be assigned a HEADstrong Honorary Captain – someone currently dealing with blood cancer. The Honorary Captains will be part of the team for the day, and will serve to inspire them, with their relentless courage.

A special HEADStrong presentation will be held at 2:10 p.m. each day, led by President Cheryl Colleluori, Nick’s mother. Also, a Relentless 27 Alumni Game will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will feature area post-high school players, college players, club players and lacrosse coaches.

Single day general admission to the tournament will be $10.00 for Adults, $5.00 for children 12 and under, and free for children 5 and under. A Two-Day Pass is available for $15.00 for adults, and $7.00 for children 12 and under.
