The Navy women’s lacrosse team is hosting the second Navy Fall Invitational, a 16-team Fall Ball tourney Saturday that includes Drexel and La Salle.
The host Mids – coached by Haverford High graduate Cindy Timchal – also will play Denver today at 5:00 p.m. at Rip Miller Field.
“We are coming off a great weekend after playing Syracuse and George Washington,” said Timchal. “Now we are really excited about playing some more NCAA Tournament-caliber teams from around the country and also some local teams from the area this weekend. Our fall schedule gives us a good opportunity to see our whole team in game situations.”
The full field of 16 for Saturdayalso includes Navy, American, Bucknell, Denver, Hofstra, Iona, James Madison, Johns Hopkins, Longwood, Mount St. Mary’s, Richmond, Robert Morris, Towson and UMBC. Games are scheduled from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. on four separate fields.
Navy’s first game of the day will be against Hofstra at 8:30 am, and the Mids will return to action at 10:30 am against Robert Morris. Navy’s final two games of the day will be against Towson at 11:30 am and against James Madison at 2:30 pm.
The Mids won the 2010 Patriot League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in just their third year as a varsity program. Navy finished the season ranked No. 19 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
Drexel plays Richmond on Field 3 at 10:30 a.m., Denver on Field 1 at 11:30, UMBC on Field 2 at 2:30 p.m. and Bucknell on Field 1 at 3:30. La Salle opens with Mount St. Mary’s on Field 2 at 10:30 a.m., meets Towson on Field 4 at 12:30, faces Robert Morris at Field 4 at 1:30 p.m. and closes with American on Field 3 at 3:30.
