Defender Speck (Conestoga) leads freshman class for Colgate women

Colgate women’s coach Heather Young will be welcoming eight new members to the squad as the team begins another campaign in 2011. Heading the list is Conestoga alum Emily Speck (defender).

The Class of 2014 is comprised of four defenders, two attackers, one midfielder and a goaltender. The staff recruited five players from New York and New Jersey, two from Virginia, while also getting commitments from players in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Wayne, Pa./Conestoga

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse at Conestoga High School … was a team captain as a senior … three-time All-Central League honorable mention … two-time All-Main Line Second Team … Pennsylvania Area Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association Student-Athlete of the Year as a senior … Academic All-American in 2009 … was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player as a senior and the Unsung Hero Award winner … also played field hockey at Conestoga.

Personal: Emily Stewart Speck is the daughter of Bruce Speck and Debra Kurucz … has two sisters … was a member of the Key Club and Student Executive Council at Conestoga … named to the National Honor Society as well.

Hanna Atwood
Dedham, Mass./Noble & Greenough

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse at Noble and Greenough School of the Independent School League … three-time ISL Champion … also competed in soccer and squash at Nobles … won four New England Championships in soccer and her team won the ISL Championship in 2008.

Personal: Hanna Joan Atwood is the daughter of James and Kristen Atwood … has one brother and three sisters … was awarded the Lacrosse Bowl Award for overall contribution to the team … received high distinction for academic success … was a member of the Community Service Club and a women’s Acapella singing group.

Madison Daly
Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Albany Academies

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse at Albany Academies … named 2010 Academic All-American and Times Union First Team Sectional All-Star as a senior … competed and received letters in three different sports including field hockey and alpine skiing … team was 2009 and 2010 Lacrosse League and Sectional Champions.

Personal: Madison Lynn Daly is the daughter of John and Pam Daly of Saratoga Springs, New York … born in Amsterdam, New York … has two brothers and three sisters … major is undeclared.

Alison Flood
Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse at Liverpool High School of Class A CNYCL National League … scored 81 goals and had 16 assists in her high school career … picked up 86 ground balls as well … had 53 goals alone in her final season as team captain … named a All-American as a senior and was selected All-Central New York First Team … two-time all-league first team member … competed at the Empire State Games both in 2008 and 2010 … named to the Under Armour Underclassmen Upstate Team in 2009 … also played soccer for the Warriors and was named first all-league last year.

Personal: Alison Jay Flood is the daughter of David and Patricia Flood … was born in Syracuse, N.Y. … has two brothers and a sister … member of the National Honor Society and was a three-time NYS Scholar-Athlete.

Kylie Kain
McLean, Va./McLean

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse at Georgetown Visitation School … appeared in the AA Independent School League championship game three times … ISL All-League selection … First Team All-DC as a senior … named to the DC Metro Team 2 in the National Schoolgirls Tournament and DC Under Armour All-America Underclassmen Team as a junior … Washington Post honorable mention all-metro and #2 leader in assists in her final season … led Georgetown Visitation in assists and total points as a junior and senior … team MVP as a senior, leading the squad in points and assists … competed in three different sports at Georgetown Visitation, including field hockey and swimming … lettered in field hockey and swimming … went to two field hockey ISL Championships … finished her career with 179 assists … had 59 assists and 33 goals in her senior year alone.

Personal: Kylie Michelle Kain was born in Washington, D.C. … is the daughter of Michael and Marlana Kain … has two brothers, Patrick and Brendan … was a member of the Chess Club, Booster Club and Key Club at Georgetown … major is undeclared.

Hanna Longwell
McLean, Va./McLean

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse for four seasons at McLean High School … posted a career .595 save percentage and a .573 as senior captain … three-time all-district for the Highlanders … Virginia High School League Northern Regional Goalkeeper of the Year as a junior … named first team all-region that year after being named second team as a sophomore and honorable mention as a freshman … Most Valuable Player for McLean in 2008 … also competed in gymnastics and cheerleading … earned 12 varsity letters.

Personal: Hanna Sophia Longwell is the daughter of George and Jacky Longwell … has a sister and a brother … sister, Alexis, is a goalkeeper on the Colgate women’s soccer team and a member of the Class of 2013 … nine-time Scholar-Athlete Award recipient for a 3.5 grade point average or better at McLean.

Paige Schlesinger
Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown

Before Colgate: Played lacrosse for Moorestown High School … two-time New Jersey State Champion (2008, 2009) … was an Academic All-American … also played field hockey at Moorestown.

Personal: Paige Susannah Schlesinger was born In Mt. Holly, N.J. … daughter of David Schlesinger and Amy Wexler … has one brother … father played Lacrosse at Colgate from 1976-80 … major is undeclared.

Monica White
Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park

Before Colgate: Played five years of varsity lacrosse at Deer Park High School … in her first four years, accumulated 157 goals and 47 assists for 204 points … three-time team captain … two-time all-county selection … all-league in 2007 and all-tournament in 2006 … was a member of the Under Armour Underclassmen All-American Team … was named Most Valuable Player for Deer Park … also competed three years in soccer.

Personal: Monica White is the daughter of James and Donna White … has one sister, Lynn … was a three-year member of the National Honor Society … was the president of the Varsity Leaders Club … a member of the student council and student government … participated in the Deer Park G.I.R.L.S Organization.
