The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team is listed No. 13 in a 2011 preseason poll released by Inside Lacrosse on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers completed the 2010 season with their 10th straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title and ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

“We’ll never take for granted sharing an honor like this with so many stellar teams,” said 11th-year head coach Steve Colfer. “We are looking forward to a challenging non-conference schedule with four teams ranked the Top 20 and defending the CSAC championship for an 11th straight season.”

Cabrini finished last season with a 15-4 overall record, topping Gwynedd-Mercy College, 20-3 in the CSAC title tilt. The Cavaliers opened NCAA Tournament play with a 10-7 win against No. 15 Denison University before the season came to a close with a 19-9 loss against No. 1 Stevenson University.

Senior Paul Skulski (Garnet Valley) is the team’s top returning scorer, ranking seventh all-time in program history with 153 career points on 86 goals and 67 assists. Skulski claimed U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Honorable Mention All-America distinction in 2010.

Skulski listed second on the team in scoring last season, totaling a career-best 58 points on 35 scores and 23 helpers. Junior Brian Hill (Ridley) is back with the Cavaliers’ attack after posting 44 points in 2010, scoring 28 goals and handing out 16 assists.

Senior face-off specialist Mike Gurenlian (Springfield Delco) will lead the Cabrini charge in the middle of the circle, returning from a 2010 season in which he posted a .679 win percentage. Gurenlian ranks third in program history with 260 career face-off wins.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erick Zarzecki started all 19 games between the pipes for the Blue & White last year as a freshman, owning a 7.81 goals-against average. USILA Honorable Mention All-America selections senior Steve Heaps and junior John McSorley (Ridley) return to help anchor the Cabrini backline with Zarzecki.

The Blue & White opens the regular season with four of its first five opponents ranked in the Inside Lacrosse Top 20 preseason poll, including local rival No. 6 Haverford College at home on Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. The Cavaliers play three of those four games at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Cabrini also hosts No. 11 Lynchburg College on March 5 at 1 p.m. and No. 20 Hampden-Sydney College on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. The Cavaliers travel to No. 7 Gettysburg College on March 16 at 3 p.m.

Defending NCAA Champion Tufts University is ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll. Stevenson University is listed No. 2 and Salisbury University stands No. 3.
