A round robin series of games involving the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, Rebel Elite Lacrosse Club and the Inter-Ac League all-Stars will kick off the 2nd Philly Lacrosse Showcase on Friday, Nov. 19 at Cabrini College, Showcase officials announced today.

The games will begin at 7 p.m. Andy Hayes, President of Showcase Lacrosse, said the games will further showcase Philly talent as the coaches settle into Philadelphia to attend the Saturday boys’ event at the Philly Lacrosse Showcase at Episcopal Academy.

“Many of the college coaches attending the Boys’ Showcase on Saturday arrive in the Philly area on Friday.” he said. “This additional session just gives them another opportunity to watch some of the great talent in the Philly area.

“We are very happy to add this Friday night session to what promises to be a great weekend.”

The event is open to all college coaches and to the public. Further details about the Friday night schedule will be forthcoming. Showcase Lacrosse wishes to thank Steve Colfer, head coach at Cabrini College, for making the event possible.

The Philly Lacrosse Showcase will feature a boys’ event (Nov. 20) and a girls’ event (Nov. 21) at EA. The boys’ event is already sold out and will feature more than 300 of the top players in the country. More than 100 coaches are expected to attend.

The girls’ event still has openings. It is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors and each player is guaranteed at least three games. In the afternoon, the top players will be selected to compete in the Gait Lacrosse Fab 40 All-Star Games.

Am I pointing out the obvious here? Andy Hayes, Episcopal coach (Inter-Ac) and EPSLA Head (only the Inter-Ac cares about the EPSLA anymore now that the PIAA has everyone else)—somehow rigs a “pre-showcase” showcase filled with Inter-Ac stars. Half the Duke’s roster is already Inter-Ac players, and now the added “All-Star” team makes this a really interesting “recruiting showcase”. Hey I realize the Inter-Ac needs to do something after losing the ability to win a state championship, but their shoddy postseason tournament, and this “showcase”, are two reasons no one will feel bad for them.

Really? Add Mesa Fresh and you will represent the area’s top lacrosse players. Who do you think visiting coaches want to see? Other programs are making great strides and improving evry season but this is a great opportunity for many young players to come out and see where the bar is being set.

  3. Mesa says:

Mesa will be diluted and fall by the wayside with Nostrant starting a club team and requiring the kids to play for him.

The Dukes will benefit from this.

  4. The Obvious says:

The EPSLA is an organization on life support. As soon as the PIAA chooses All-State the EPSLA will have one thing left: showcases.

One final point: What does a kid like Joey Sankey do in this case? He plays for his dad on Rebel Elite, was a key member of the Dukes team this summer, and is an Inter-Ac All-Star for PC. This is case in point!

    Gentlemen-
Does every event need to be critisized or competitive in nature? This was initally an invitation to a few groups that have SOME of the talented players in area. Yes, there is tons more of capable players in Phila area – but where do you draw th line? The remaining athletes have the opportunity to impress at the Saturday “Showcase” event. As it is turning out – the Friday night “preview” may be utilized as a fund raiser for a man who has an illness and substancial debt as a result of it. All teams that are participating have a close tie to that family. It now is an event that peaks the interest of coaches that otherwise may not have the ability to get a more in depth evaluation of “Philly Players” and an event that raises revenue and attention to a deadly disease. Time to stop breaking down teams, players, and men who go beyond and highlight lacrosse in our area. May be time to thank your Spiritual Guide that you, your sons, and your families have the abilty to just be involved in the great game of lacrosse – and life itself!
