Recent Pennsbury graduate Justin Merola (attackman) will play Division III lacrosse at
King’s College in Wilkes-Barre.
Merola was a member of a Falcons team that finished 17-3 and advanced
to the second round of the District 1 playoffs in 2010. He also played for Arrowhead Lacrosse.
Merola plans on majoring in Business Management.
“I liked the school to begin with due to its high academic standing,” he said. “Also, the program at King’s seemed to really fit my playing style. In the future I think we can really do some big things in the MAC conference.”
Merola will join five Philly recruits at Scranton: Penncrest defenseman Mike Baldassarre, Springfield-Delco face-off specialist Billy McCullough, Perkiomen Valley midfielder T.J. Tagg, Spring-Ford midfielder Carl Santoro and Avon Grove face-off specialist Bobby Benditt.
Merola said he enjoyed playing for a team on the rise. Pennsbury was in and out of the state rankings in 2010 and made a run at a Suburban One National Conference crown, but fell twice to league champion Abington. The Falcons were eliminated in the district tourney in a heartbreaking 8-7 overtime loss to Hatboro-Horsham.
“My senior season in high school really offered many opportunities,” he said “We won big on many teams, but lost two tough games to Abington.
“We still advanced to the playoffs, we beat Perk Valley in the first round and faced Hatboro Horsham in the second round. We lost by one goal in overtime, it was a good run but easily could have kept going.”
