lacrosse for the Phantastix, played for the Philly team at the Under Armour Underclassmen games last month.

This year she collected 40 goals, 23 assists, 36 groundballs and 23 draw control.

Rheiner, a member of the National Honor Society, is leaning toward Oceanography as a major. She said the naval Academy offered her the best opportunities.

“I think the main thing was the team aspect,” she said. “The Academy not only offers lacrosse, but it offers the moral value of friendships and relationships.

“I could tell that during my summer seminar. For six days I was living the life of a midshipman and I got so close to my squad of eight people. I valued that more than the typical college partying.

“At Navy I will be building key relationships. I always looked up to people that served our country. It’s an honor to go to the Academy and get that kind of education.”

At Navy Rheiner will play for veteran coach Cindy Timchal (Haverford High), who won eight national titles at Maryland and has quickly built the Mids into a Patriot League power in just four years of varsity play.

“When she came for my home visit I couldn’t get over the fact that Cindy Timchal was in my house – let alone the fact I’d be playing for her,” Rheiner said. “What she has been able to do in four years speaks volumes on how great a coach she is.”

Rheiner also has found success at Council Rock North, which showed much improvement last year after winning nine games in 2009.

“I think we are growing as a team and hopefully next year we can make it past the first round of the playoffs,” she said.
