A Beef and Beer will be held on Sept. 10 at Archbishop Carroll High to benefit Patriots lacrosse player Shawn Friel and the “Friends Fight for Shawn Foundation.”
Friel recently was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer), will be undergoing chemotherapy and several operations in the coming months at Children’s Hospital.
Tickets for the event – slated for 6 p.m.-midnight – are $25. Donations are graciously accepted and can be sent to 139 Stafford Drive, Blue Bell Pa 19422. The Co- Presidents are Pat Gilmore and John Wynne.
Friel, a senior, also participates in bowling at Carroll and is involved in community service projects with the Boy Scouts of America as well as with his church St. John’s of Manayunk. He aspires to attend Drexel University next year as a bio medical engineer major.
“I had the pleasure of playing with Shawn for 2 years at Archbishop Carroll. He honestly was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen on the lacrosse field,” said friend Kevin Gallagher, who plays at Cabrini College. “Shawn was not the biggest kid on the field but he always tried his hardest.
“He is a d-pole and the one thing I remember about Shawn was that his communication skills were very high. Finally, win or lose I could tell that Shawn was just happy being out there and working for a common goal
Also, there will be many items available for bid at the event. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but event directors are encouraging guests to purchase tickets in advance so a headcount for food and beer can be taken.
