Mesa Fresh University wins War at the Shore crown with veterans, youngsters making contributions

Mesa Fresh University won the A Division crown at the War at the Shore in Brick, N.J., during the weekend.

A total of 84 teams competed in this yearly event, with 24 teams in the A Division. Teams are comprised of college and post college players (including a few pros like Kyle Harrison and Rob Panell) from all over the country. Teams cannot have more than five active college

Mesa Fresh University is comprised of mostly Philly players, including Kyle Wharton (Johns Hopkins/Haverford School), John Haldy (Virginia/Haverford School), Chris Aitken (Villanova/Haverford School), Will Scudder (Lehigh/Haverford School), Doug Emrich (Bucknell/Haverford School), Liam O’Conner (Notre Dame/Haverford School), Kurt Watkinson (Georgetown/Haverford School), Chris Ryan (Lehigh/Haverford School); Matt Dolente (Johns Hopkins/Malvern Prep), Steve Layne (Loyola/Malvern Prep), Chris Layne (North Carolina/Malvern Prep), Jake Willcox (Loyola/ Malvern Prep); Jackson Place (Bucknell/Episcopal Academy), Matt Lerman (Syracuse/Episcopal Academy); Rob Forster (Penn State/La Salle), Brian Ikeda (Conestoga), Casey Ikeda (Maryland/Conestoga), Jon Gill (Lynchburg/Unionville), Eroc DiProspero (Johns Hopkins/Unionville). The roster was rounded out with Tim Langan (Villanova), Matt Langan (Loyola), Jake Hagelin (Loyola), and Pete Swerz (Johns Hopkins).

Mesa Fresh went 7-0 in the event and beat TriState, US Chay, Fat Rhino’s and finally Power Tek A in the championship, 10-7. Mesa had standout defense and goaltending was outstanding, while O’Conner, Dolente, Scudder and Swerz were dominant at the face-off X. The scoring was led by Haldy, Wharton, Forster and Tim Langan.

Recent scholastic grads Casey Ikeda, Place and O’Conner made huge contributions.
