Malvern Prep rising senior midfielder Vince Travaglini has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts.

Travaglini is the third Malvern Prep rising senior to commit to a Division I college. The others are face-off specialist Drew Kennedy (Johns Hopkins) and attackman TJ Hanzsche (Navy).

Travaglini, who played last year in the adidas National Tournament, plans to enroll in the UMass Isenberg School of Business and study management and finance.

“I really liked the Isenberg School of Business,” he said. “I got great vibes from the coaches, (head coach Greg) Cannella and (Doc) Schneider, and I got to meet (assistant) coach (Kevin) Burns. I really like the campus and how close (downtown) Amherst was to school.”

Travaglini said the Friars accomplished a lot in 2010, and felt the highlight was defeating Haverford School twice.

“We started off slow in the Inter-Ac at 0-2 and then came back and ended up winning all our games,” he said. “We eventually tied with Haverford School so to tie for the title is pretty awesome.

“We definitely plan to compete (for the title) next year. Even though we lost lot of great players and had a lot of D1 players, we think we’ll do well.”
