Downingtown West senior midfielder Casey Kellogg has signed a letter of intent to play next year at Hofstra University.
Kellogg, a first-team All-Ches-Mont League National Conference pick last season, chose Hofstra because of coach Abby Morgan and the feel of the Hempstead, N.Y. campus. Morgan is a graduate of Great Valley.
“I really liked the area and I really liked the coach,” Kellogg said. “I’m also thinking of majoring in graphic design.
“I’ve always been interested in art. Graphic design is a cool way to go with art and they had that major, so it worked out.”
Kellogg noted that the nine Hofstra recruits for next year – which includes Merion Mercy’s Emily Corzel and Springfield-Montco’s Lauren Chandler – have all become friends.
“We all ended up going on our official (visits) at the same time so we got to know each other and hang out,” Kellogg said. “We’ve all been in contact since then.”
Kellogg said the Whippets, who won the Ches-Mont National crown last year and advanced to the District 1 Class AAA semifinals, have to rebuild this year after losing many key seniors. But she is optimistic.
“I think this will be a learning season for us,” she said. “We have a lot of younger kids coming up to play varsity for first time.
“We have a lot of talent and we should be able to win a little bit. I think we’ll do well,”
