Canadian Field Lacrosse Executive Director Dean French announced that Philadelphia Wings GM and head coach Dave Huntley will be the head coach of Team Canada  and Wings assistant coach Chris Sanderson will join him as the goalie coach at the World Field Lacrosse tournament to be held in  Manchester, England in 2010.

Huntley, named Wings’ coach in 2007, has been a coach on the Canadian National Team staff four previous times, most recently in 2006 when Team Canada captured gold. He was also a player on the 1978 Team Canada World Championship Team.

“Dave won a World Championship as a player and as a coach and is the natural selection for the head coach position,’’ says John Mouradian, the General Manager for Team Canada.

As head coach of the Wings, Huntley’s record is 17-15. In 2008 he led Philadelphia to its first playoff appearance since the 2002 season.

“It has been a great privilege to be a part of the national team program over the years and, when Johnny asked me to be the head coach for the 2010 team, I was honored and humbled,’’ said Huntley.

Sanderson has been on the Wings staff since 2004. He also has extensive international lacrosse experience.  Sanderson was the goalie for Canada’s gold medal-winning team in 2006 while being named the All-World goaltender for the second time in his international career. He was also the goaltender for the 1998 and 2002 silver medal-winning squads, being named All-World goaltender for the first time in 1998.

Team Canada Lacrosse 2010 recently announced its final list of the 55 athletes invited to the selection camp. From this 4-day camp the team that will represent Canada at the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship will be chosen. The entire selection panel is looking forward to the camp and is extremely motivated by the caliber of athletes that will be attending. The tryouts will take place from Friday, October 9, 2009 through Monday, October 12, at St. Michaels College School in Toronto, Ontario.

On the list are Wings Merrick Thomson, Geoff Snider, Kevin Huntley and Taylor Wray, also an assistant coach at Lehigh.
