Villanova senior goalie Andrew DiLoreto has been named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week for Division I.
DiLoreto was a major reason the Wildcats stunned the top two seeds and won the Colonial Athletic Association championship last weekend, earning their first NCAA Division I tournament berth ever.
Named the league tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, DiLoreto had 11 saves in an upset win over Hofstra in the first round, then 10 more in the finals against Towson, with both games coming on the road for the No. 4 seeded Wildcats. On the year, DiLoreto has a miniscule 6.68 goals against average for Villanova and has stopped 56% of the shots he’s seen.
Villanova opens its NCAA tournament on the road Sunday against Virginia.
