The Ursinus College men’s team has announced that senior Ian Jordan (Penncrest) and juniors Eric Farris (Pottsgrove) and Tom Walsh will join returning seniors Jason Orlando (Springfield-Delco) and Tony Aquilino (Archbishop Wood) as team captains for 2009.
Jordan, a defensive midfielder, started all 16 games last season. Jordan also took a six week Japanese Language intensive program at The International Christian University in Tokyo. He majors in Business and Economics where he also excels with a 3.72 GPA.
Farris, a midfielder, has played in every game since coming to Urisnus College. He posted career-high numbers with 33 points and 29 goals tying for team high while also maintaining a 3.59 GPA in Business.
Walsh, of Smithtown West HS, N.Y., a midfielder, has played in every game since his freshmen year. Orlando contributed five goals and 10 assists last year at attack while Aquilino started every game in goal and had a goals against average of 8.04 with 189 saves.
Ursinus opens its season Feb. 27 when it hosts Messiah College at 4:00 PM.
Penn State Abington names captains
Penn State Abington, gearing for its first season under coach Keith Brandon, has announced its captains for 2009. They are: seniors James Delaney (La Salle) and Peter Seweryn (La Salle) and sophomore Joe Staerk (Abington).
“All three of these young men have shown their desire to lead this team,” Brandon said. “We have some tough competition this season and these three are going to be great leaders for us on the field.”
