St. Mary’s Hall (TX) senior defenseman Paul Swann has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania.

Swann – the No. 13 ranked recruit on the WestSideLax ELITE 25 Boys Individual Power Rankings – said he picked the Philadelphia-based school over academic heavyweights Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Washington & Lee and Army.

“I went and visited and absolutely loved it,” Swann said. “When I met the kids that will be going with me, it cemented my decision. I’m just very happy that’s where I’m going to be going.”

Swann added that he understands he might not be as technically sound as some of his East Coast counterparts, but he still believes he is ready to take that next step.

“Being from Texas, you don’t learn the traditional skills that the Northeast kids use,” Swann said. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to get up to speed with all those guys. I know that I can play DI.”
