The first Girls Rankings for 2009:

1. Radnor (0-0) – The Red Raiders graduated a lot from their 23-0 team of 2008, but the junior class is loaded.

2. Strath Haven (0-0) – The Panthers return one of the top seniors in the country in Emily Garrity, and a whole lot more.

3. Episcopal Academy (0-0) – Watch out; this team has looked powerful in the preseason.

4. Archbishop Carroll (0-0) – At last, the Vikings get their shot at playing for something more than the Catholic League.

5. Springfield-Delco (0-0) – Another “rebuilding” year for the three-time District 1 Class AA champion Cougars, who only seem to reload.

6, Villa Maria Academy (0-0) – The Hurricanes have many weapons.

7. Abington (0-0) – Is this the year the Ghosts challenge for a District 1 championship? They have all the pieces.

8. Downingtown West (0-0) – The Whippets again will be a power in the Ches-Mont National Conference.

9. Bayard Rustin (0-0) – The Golden Knights lost a load of seniors and their head coach from a District 1 Class AAA finalist, but they remain strong.

10. Merion Mercy (0-0) – Watch out for this team; will give Villa Maria a run for its money in the Catholic Academies Association.

Teams to watch: (in alphabetic order) Archbishop Wood, Baldwin School, Boyertown, Conestoga, Council Rock South, Downingtown East, Germantown Academy, North Penn, Notre Dame, Ridley, Unionville, Upper Dublin
