Mercyhurst senior defender Matt Spahr (Penncrest) has been named a second-team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
Spahr earned the honor despite missing six of the Lakers’ 14 games. In eight games, Spahr picked up 18 groundballs and caused 15 turnovers in helping Mercyhurst finish 11-3.
Spahr, who also was named a first-team All-East Coast Conference pick for the second straight year, was a repeat selection on the second team All-American squad.
Spahr also has been selected to play May 22 in the USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game for the top Division I and Division II seniors Friday at Harvard Stadium at 4:30 p.m. The contest will precede the Major League Lacrosse game featuring the host Boston Cannons and Denver Outlaws and follow the Division III All-Star Game.
The three events combined will kick-off the Memorial Day Weekend collegiate championship tournament held at nearby Gillette Stadium.
