Three Philly sophomore women have transferred to Division I colleges in the Philadelphia area.
Midfielders Stephanie Markunas (Ridley) and Shelby Christopher (Avon Grove) have transferred to Temple and midfielder Kalyn McDonough (Unionville) has transferred to Delaware.
Markunas played in seven games as a freshman at Penn State. She scored 77 goals and led Ridley to the Class AAA finals as a junior but missed most of her senior year due to a serious knee injury. She also was an Academic All-American as a senior.
Christopher appeared in 10 games as a freshman at Drexel, scoring two goals and recording two groundballs and one caused turnover. Christopher was a First Team All-American and Second Team Phillylacrosse.com pick as a senior. She also was named Academic All-American as a junior.
The addition of Markunas and Christopher give Temple coach Bonnie Rosen (Harriton) 16 players from the Philly area on her roster.
McDonough played in two games and scored once as a freshman at Richmond. She was an Honorable Mention All-American and Second Team Phillylacrosse.com pick. She also was a Laxzilla/Phillylacrosse.com Student-Athlete of the Week choice.
