Girls’ wrap: Unionville knocks off Rustin, 13-9; Downingtown East tops Merion Mercy, 15-8

Unionville outscored visiting Bayard Rustin, 9-3, in the second half Tuesday night and claimed a 13-9 victory in Ches-Mont League American Conference girls’ lacrosse.

Lindsey Smith led the Indians (4-1, 1-0) with four goals and three assists while Julie Moran had three goals, Erica Midiri had two goals and two assists, Kathleen Insetta had two goals and Erin Linthicum and Lizzy Carney had one each. Melissa Lloyd made three saves for Unionville.

Bayard Rustin, ranked third in the PIAA and fifth in the state in the PA Media Rankings, fell to 3-1 and 0-1.

Downingtown East 15, Merion Mercy 8

Emily Solenberger had five goals and Kristen Blye added three goals and two assists to power the Cougars (2-1, ranked eighth in the PIAA and 10th in the state) to the victory over the Bears (2-1), ranked fourth in the PIAA and sixth in the state. Kelly Devlin and Kelli Jordan each added a pair of goals for Downingtown East.

Margeret Corzel led Merion Mercy with three goals.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh 15, Upper Moreland 5

Megan Piotrowicz had six goals and an assist for the Colonials. Charlotte Cornog added four goals and Sarah Corcoray had a goal and three assists. Katie Miller had 13 saves for PW while Lily Smith led Upper Moreland with two goals and Sarah Baumgardner made eight saves.

CB South 13, Hatboro-Horsham 7

Natalie Rube scored three goals and had two assists to lead Central bucks South to the Suburban One Continental Conference win. Lauren Purvis and Sarah Tustin each scored three goals for the Hatters.

Annalise Penikis amassed six goals and two assists and Kelly Ruffini had five goals and an assist while goalie Lela Meunier was strong with 15 saves for the No. 2 Panthers.

Courtney Campbell poured in five goals while Sam Ellis, Kelyn Freedman and Allie Martin added three apiece to lead the No. 1 Red Raiders to the Central League rout. Marissa Restaine led Penncrest with two scores.

Ridley 16, Marple Newtown 12

Becky Donkin and Jenna Massimo scored four goals each and Shaela Allen added three to lead the Green Raiders to the Central League triumph. Germantown Academy 15, Penn Charter 12

Kate Henrich and Maggie Ebbott had five goals apiece while Sidney Jacobs added two and Olivia Mann, Mia Jordam, and Alex Farris had one apiece for GA in the Inter-Ac League win.

Kellie Ragg led PC with four goals while Blaine Steinberg had three, Brittany Wohler two and Monica Butler, Allie Ingersoll and Kate Higgins one apiece.

Villa Maria Academy 18, Sacred Heart 7

Chelsea Fay pumped in nine goals and Kathy Young added five as Villa (4-1, 3-1) won the Catholic Academies League contest. Stephanie Finley led Sacred Heart with a hat trick.

Great Valley 19, Sun Valley 5

Colleen O’Malley had six goals and Caroline Dodds and Anne Fosnocht had strong games defensively for the Patriots. Krissy Finn led Sun Valley with two goals.
